Hangar One

The eight-acre airship hangar built at Moffett Field in 1933 for the USS Macon, one of the world’s largest freestanding structures.

Hangar One is 1,133 feet long, 308 feet wide and 198 feet high, framed in steel, with “orange peel” doors weighing about 500 tons each. Its interior is so large that fog sometimes forms near the ceiling.

PCBs in its siding closed it in 2003, and the Navy stripped it to its frame between 2010 and 2013. Planetary Ventures restored it, finishing in December 2025.
