Burrowing owl

The small ground-nesting owl that lives at Shoreline, one of four Bay Area sites where it still breeds.

Western burrowing owls stand 8 to 10 inches tall and nest in ground squirrel burrows. The city has had a burrowing owl plan since 1998, and the bird was made a candidate for state listing in 2024.

Drivers in Shoreline are asked to keep to 25 mph and walkers to stay on the paths.
