Permanente Creek

A 13.3-mile creek from Black Mountain through Los Altos and Mountain View to the bay, named for its year-round flow.

Spanish explorers called it Arroyo Permanente because it kept flowing. Mary J. Gates noted that the first American settlers called it Dickie creek.

Today most of its flow is diverted into Stevens Creek, and its mouth by Shoreline Park is habitat for burrowing owls.
