Henry Rengstorff, a German immigrant, ran a grain landing on the bay and built the house nearby on Stierlin Road. His family lived in it until 1959.
After a fire and years of neglect, the Friends of “R” House saved it. It was moved in 1977 and again in 1986 and opened to the public in 1991 after a $1.25 million restoration. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.
